10th National Conference of Indian Association of Surgeons for Sleep Apnoea
IC 8 DISE: Interactive course on eval..
DISE: Interactive course on evaluation & surgical planning
Details about the course
The Drug-Induced Sleep Endoscopy (DISE) interactive course focuses on evaluating and planning surgical interventions for patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS). DISE is a dynamic procedure that visualizes airway collapse during a sleep-like state, offering a more accurate diagnosis of airway obstruction compared to awake assessments. Participants will learn the step-by-step process of performing DISE, from patient sedation and positioning to navigating the airway using a flexible endoscope. The course emphasizes optimal sedation techniques and safety protocols to ensure successful outcomes. Attendees will practice scope manipulation in hands-on sessions, gaining valuable experience in identifying common obstruction sites like the soft palate, tongue base, and epiglottis. Key to the course is understanding how to interpret DISE findings using structured classifications like the VOTE system (Velum, Oropharynx, Tongue base, Epiglottis). Through interactive case reviews, participants will enhance their ability to pinpoint the locations and patterns of airway collapse. The final section covers surgical planning based on DISE results, guiding participants in choosing appropriate interventions—whether single-level or multi-level surgeries such as UPPP or tongue base reduction. This course equips clinicians with the skills to tailor personalized treatment plans, improving surgical outcomes for OSAS patients.
